MEDTECH & LIFE SCIENCE COMPANY - Engineers’ Report Competition

Innovation is the practical implementation of ideas that result in the introduction of new goods or services or improvement in offering goods or services. Medical technology thrives on innovations. And people survive because of these innovations. Commercially, we as medical technology companies live from these innovations. That is why the Engineers' Report Competition is certainly one of the most important events of the MedTech & Life Science Company in HOYA. Ten pre-selected innovations from PENTAX Medical, Microline Surgical, HOYA Technosurgical and Wassenburg Medical were presented to a panel on September 8th in a hybrid meeting in HOYA headquarters in Shinjuku, Tokyo, and remotely via Teams.

Evaluation systems guided the joint decisions - the Triple Aim concept and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Thus, each project had to be rated on the dimensions IMPROVE Clinical Outcome, ENHANCE Experience and Satisfaction, MAXIMIZE value and ADRESS ESG goals.

Jose Luque, Director of R&D for Microline, presented the ReNew XR handpiece in the competition. This project was tied for 5th place in the voting. The ReNew XR handpiece scored high in Enhance Customer Experience & Satisfaction, Maximize Value, and Addressing ESG Targets. The ReNew XR was released to the field in the U.S. on June 1st and since July is being released to various OUS countries.

With the release of the ReNew XR we’ve heard positive feedback from our customers on the performance of the device, the improvements such as the removal of the o-ring, and the ease of cleaning & sterilization in Sterile Processing.

"Excellent product with great ergonomics." Dr. Jessica Carlson, M.D, General Surgeon at Curry General Hospital

"Holyoke Medical Center enjoys the new ReNew XR handpieces and have had zero issues with them. They are very simple to process in the Sterile Processing Department. We look forward to purchasing more."
Kraig Burke, Sterile Processing Director at Holyoke Medical Center
